There are more books about the Lightning -the Lockheed P-38 one, not to be confused with the English Electric-, but none with this approach. After several years of books following more-or-less the same formula and which mostly kept getting a little bit better than their predesessors (Though Warren Bodie's book has yet to be surpassed), Osprey -themselves publishers of the famous 1970ies photo-stacked Aircam no.10 about this plane- decided to follow a different approach and to start in the factory and to follow the plane on it's way to the frontline. There's also special attention to the prototypes, reconnaissance versions, Richard Bong (America's Ace of Aces)and other pilots.
The result: finally a book about the P-38 Lightning with lots of photographs and text which isn't repeated elsewhere or which you've already seen before. The colour art is also something special: reprints of the WW2 magazine ads. A welcome addition to my P-38 library
