Product Description

Product Description

The first of a series of five books on the German army of World War II. This volume focuses on their achievements from 1935 to 1940, and how the military traditions of Germany were used by Hitler to dominate Europe. Nigel Thomas examines the ways in which this army was trained and organized to allow them to dominate large areas of Europe so successfully. He looks at the campaigns and uniforms during the Polish, Danish, Norwegian, Belgian, Dutch and French campaigns between September 1939 and June 1940, and also considers the pre-war campaigns in Rhineland, Spain, Austria and Czechoslovakia from between 1936 and 1939.

2.0 out of 5 stars First in the Osprey "recycling" series, 1 Nov 2006
By Thomas Raymann "thraymann" (Switzerland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Unneccessary series on German Soldier, rechewing much info from other Osprey books including pics.
Plates amateur-crude.
Save your money on complete series!
Completly overpriced!!
Just a con by Osprey when they started to notice that they could line their pockets easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction, 7 Nov 2008
By B. Schenk "stardestroyer78" (Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book covers the development of German Army uniforms during the years 1939-1940. It is NOT about weapons, equipment, tactics or army life. Neither is a lot of information about the campaigns in Poland, Denmark and Norway, the Low Countries and the Battle of France in this volume.
But if you are interested in uniforms it is a very good introduction (albeit reading about every single buttonhole can be a bit boring ;) ).
The illustrations are excellent.
