This is an interesting idea. Take a whole bunch of old magazine reviews, and put them together in a softback book. The Wrangler Performance Portfolio covers the years 1987-1999, for U.K readers that includes the official launch and the later restyling. Articles come mostly from the U.K, with several American, as well as Australian and even South African pieces. Sadly some two page spread photographs didn't transfer very well and are cut down , also the whole book is in black and white. Now, the main thought is just who is this book is aimed at. Someone with an interest in Jeeps would be better off with a big 'coffee table' volume full of big pictures of Jeeps with even bigger wheels. My reason for purchase was that I was thinking of buying a Wrangler. Finding details of older models is hard. You can try the price guides, which give a brief overview and specifications. Or you may know someone with a similar model. What would be useful would be a review of the car, from 3,5 or however many years ago. Step forward the Performance Portfolio. Here, I can see what the '95 model looked like inside, how the new suspension worked in the '97 model and so on. One thing I did notice about these articles was the fact that almost to a man the U.K writers were concerned about the Wranglers poor on-road handling. The Americans, on the other hand, made no such bones, in fact claimed a smooth, pleasing ride.Read into that what you will, because this book is all about opinions, and you certainly have a few to choose from. To sum up then, a book of very limited appeal, but for someone thinking of buying a second hand Wrangler, it's a must.
