How many manuals tell you how to keep your car on the road and also how to destroy it to prevent capture by an enemy?. Reprinted from the original military manual this book certainly lacks in glossy photos and quirky footnotes, but tells you what everything is, what it does, how to use it and what to do if it goes wrong.
The diagrams are functional but label the key components clearly enough. Covering both the standard 12 Volt electrical system and the 24 Volt Fitted for Radio versions, it points out the differing parts and includes wiring diagrams. For anyone puzzled by the extra 2 gear levers in a Land Rover it explains what they do too (low ratio and 4X4)together with handy advice on stripping down the vehicle if you want to sling it under a helicopter or throw it out the back of a plane.
Many Lightweights are cared for by enthusiasts, but others fall into the hands of well meaning novices such as myself. This book will help anyone through the trials and tribulations of running one, and if all else fails it lets you know which parts to take an axe to in order to kill it.

As of yet I don't own a 101 (not through lack of wanting), but after reading this book I feel I know it intimately. The Mannual gives you a basic yet thourough understanding of the Land Rover, it's strengths and weakness', and how to get to grips with it's day to day usage. There are enough Figures to keep and accountant happy, and diagrams galore. If anything this mannual has given me more respect for the ingenuity of the designers, and for the rugged go anywhere construction of the Vehicle it self. I want one!

I've read this twice from cover to cover as well as using it to flick through and find out info about the vehicle. This is a surprisingly good read even if you haven't got a lightweight Land Rover and the various techniques for destruction along with which bits to destroy first is great. The fact that nearly all the pictures feature a lightweight completely different from mine, yet strangely familiar so that it IS like looking at my car is just weird. If you have read enough Jackie Collins read this instead, it's really good!
