2.0 out of 5 stars Well out of date, 20 Feb 2007
By Charles Polkey "Charles Polkey" (North Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Being new to electric flight I was looking for a book which would fill me in on the details for a beginner - unfortunately so much has changed since this book was last published that it is seriously out of date, obvious even to the novice. No mention at all of li-poly batteries, for example, which are fast becoming the standard, and lots of references to manufacturuers and products which are clearly long gone. I would wait for the next update.

3.0 out of 5 stars A partially successful attempt to simplify a complex subject, 20 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Flying electric model aeroplanes is a highly complex subject and Dave Chinnery has tried to cover all aspects in an easy to read manner in one small book. He has only been partially successful. Much of it comes across like a series of magazine articles with snappy titles and little content. He spends too much space on esoterics like assembling battery packs and wiring multiple motors, and too little on the fundamentals of how to determine the right motor and gearbox for a particular design.

3.0 out of 5 stars Electric flight moves on, 24 Jan 2010
By Mr. David Smith - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Although Fly electric is a book packed with information, unfortunately it has been very quickly outdated by the rapid advance in electric flight. As an example there is no mention of the lipoly battery that has almost become standard in the choice of power.Another advance has been the outrunner brushless motor and again there is no mention.
All this said there is still plenty of usefull information for the electric flight enthusiast. An updated version would be hugely appreciated though.
