4.0 out of 5 stars Another pub, another adventure, 21 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Old Fox Deceiv'd (Hardcover)
This book, like the others, is again well-written, but follows pretty much the old formula. Inspector Jury from Scotland Yard meets up with Melrose Plant. The latter and his friends and family always provide a certain sense of comedy, while Jury struggles to find the bad guy.

Nevertheless, the characters are so lively and full of personality, it really makes you feel you know them. They also work very well together and create the kind of chemistry which is quite rare in a book. At the end you will be sorry to leave them, but you know there will be other adventures.

It is an enjoyable read and highly recommended. If you are new to the somewhat bizarre world of Martha Grimes' Jury character, it is still possible to enjoy this book. By the end of it you will know the characters as well as we do. A few references to previous adventures might even inspire you to read the others.
