4.0 out of 5 stars An informative guide to a move 'across the pond', 3 Nov 2003
This guide provides the reader with all the basics that they need to consider before moving to live and work in the US or Canada. The immigration process, accomodation and employment prospects are covered in detail, together with good summaries of the education, health and taxation systems. A noteable highlight is the inclusion of several personal case histories of Brits who have made the move in the past.

The coverage on Canada is a little light, but a good background read none the less.

I would recommend this book as a first port of call for anyone considering moving to the US or Canada. Most importantly, the authors give a frank and honest account of each country's strict immigration policies that will allow the reader to assess their chances of success.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty neat, 8 Feb 2004
By Dave (Gosford) - See all my reviews
I agree with alanjturner's comments – this book did cover all the basics: it certainly answers all the questions I had about moving to the US. One of the things I especially liked was all the detailed info it has on working in the US, something I have found missing in other books on the US; it not only gives leads for finding a job but also the other stuff you need to know like salary levels, working hours etc.

The regional guide is pretty neat as well, and a useful reminder that there are more parts of the country to consider heading to than the cities you see on the TV shows.

Finally, I agree with alan about the importance of understanding immigration policies. I have always found the official paperwork from embassies both hard to read and demoralising; this book finally explained the different visas etc. to me in a way I could understand.
