Product Description

Product Description

Part of a series of monographs on the lives and careers of influential British artists, from the 18th century onwards. This volume examines Jacob Epstein, a pioneer of modern sculpture in Britain; yet he aroused hostility throughout his career and always felt an outsider in his adopted country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! Why did I not find this book earlier., 20 Dec 2001
By magsmarch@yahoo.co.uk (London, England) - See all my reviews
I had searched may other art books and not found the detailed information contained in this book. I found it facinating. I wish I had found it earlier. I was most useful in conection with my art history essay. The description of the 'Rock Drill and how Epstein changed it after the war were necessary insights for my course.

The detailed descriptions of the work Epstein produced were not available in other books, especially his work after the 1920's. The colour plates of his sculptures and his preparatory line drawings brought them to life.

This book is a must for everyone who has an interest in modern art.
