Product Description

Product Description
The question of bail arises every time a criminal case is adjourned and the accused is remanded. The subject is therefore of the utmost importance to the criminal practitioner, the CPS, the clerk of the court and the police service. This revised edition of the locus classicus on bail provides a uniquely comprehensive account of the law, practice and procedure at every stage from police station to the House of Lords. The book contains not only the primary legislation and decided cases but also rules of court, decisions of the Legal Aid Board Costs Appeals Committee, guidance on professional ethics and the results of empirical research (including previously unpublished studies). It also includes the new bail arrangements introduced by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, including changes to the custody time limits, the implementation of overall time limits, and the new custody provisions for juveniles.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB - IF YOU DO NOT HAVE IT YOU DO NOT KNOW THE BAIL ACT, 26 Jul 2000
By A Customer
David Wolchover, long recognised as an authority in various fields of Criminal Law has with Neil Corre produced a superb book dedicated to the most feared area of every new lawyer - BAIL! Whilst reading this book I became aware of my own lack of knowledge in the area and not only did I overcome my fear, but I relished the idea of knowing that the vast majority of my opponents had not! I wish it the very best of success, as I think the authors should be encouraged to write on other legal topics. However, I would be grateful if all bookshops would remove all copies from their shelves so I can maintain my edge!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't go to Court without it, 8 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This book has increased my confidence tenfold. It is well indexed and covers every possible question about procedure and practise.

A brief flick through prior to a bail app really applies the mind to the whole concept of bail and the right to bail.

I also find it makes the prosecutor very nervous!
