5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable, 25 Feb 2004
This book is enjoyable for anyone who enjoys the history of transport or architecture. This book looks at each of the London Underground Stations, for A to Z, looking at the architectural details which make them unique, interweaving modern colour photos of the station buildings with historial black and white ones. A final section looks at stations which no longer serve as station buildings or ones that are not there. I found this book thoroughly enjoyable, and a must have for anyone interested in the history of transport.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must have for London Underground fans, 8 Sep 2003
By A Customer
A very well compiled book with some excellent colour photos & highly informative text. Some good comparisons are made with archival black & white shots, though a greater quantity would have been nice. You don't have to be an expert on architecture to appreciate some of the finer points, as features are explained well (including a glossary of terms). All up, a thoroughly enjoyable and informative book.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Underground Stations of Leslie Green, 6 Mar 2003
By ewan mclean (London England) - See all my reviews
An excellent guide to the to the underground railway design of this short-lived architect. Designed in the opening years of the twentieth century for the Underground Electric Railways Company of London (UERL) the first recognisably collective London underground railway. These buildings are nevertheless surprisingly modern in terms of their conceptual approach to corporate identity and even include for later commercial developments over each station.

This well finished hardbound book manages to balance informative writing with thoughtfully presented photographs and drawings. Printed on a non standard 220mm by 250mm page size allows a varied arrangement of pictures and text covering both historical snapshots and the present day.

An ideal book for aficionados of the underground and should be required reading for anyone involved in the refurbishment / upgrade of these stations in the future.
