Product Description

Synopsis

This introduction to the life and work of Wilfred Owen - the distinguished war poet, killed in the last week of World War I, aged 25 - marks the centenary of Owen's birth. Williams traces Owen's life, from his childhood in the Borders to military service on the Western Front, and explores his literary development. He also examines Owen's influence on other war poets and 20th-century poetry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wilfred Owen, 30 Jul 2002
As a student who is currently in year 13, my love of Wilfred Owen's poetry has been heightened by reading this book. The biography at the beginning of the book and the explainations of the poems helped me to understand the message Wilfred was desperate to convey. When I started the book, my imagination was captured straight away with the biography which gave me an insight into the life which I was desperate to learn more about. I found at times Wilfred Owen's poetry confusing and vastly complex, however with information and explainations of imagery and the various stanzas, I managed to grasp the feelings conveyed with little effort.
This book is one of the best books on Wilfred Owen I've ever read and I'd recommend it to anyone who wishes to know more about this amazing man.
