Synopsis
This is Desmond Graham's first full-length collection of poetry. In these poems, he defies the conventional boundaries between public and private, personal and political. In one series, street people appear as characters from Shakespeare. There are poems about his family and childhood, as well as biting, ironic portraits of British cities in the 1980s and 1990s. His travels further afield and a fascination with history inspire a number of poems set in Europe, including "Kristallnacht" and "At the Jewish Cemetery". Desmond Graham has won prizes in the Arvon and National Poetry Competitions. He won the Richard Ellman Poetry Prize in 1991.
