5.0 out of 5 stars An expert's experience of a National Trail, 8 Sep 2004
By Michael Wagstaff (Usk, Monmouthshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
David Perrot's guide to Glyndwr's Way is one of a number of Trail Guides produced by Aurum Press. It fills a gap in the guide books to walks in Wales.

David is a well-known walker of some considerable experience as his role as Mid Wales editor of the Walking Wales proves. His regular contributions to the magazine are of very high quality.

The present guide gives a detailed description of the walk making it almost impossible to go wrong. The walking notes are supplemented by a deep knowledge of the area with descriptions of the villages, historical background, geologacal and natural history background, in fact, anything of interest on the way. My daughter borrowed the book and pronounced it a good read apart from the walking aspects.

A readable book is one thing but how does it perform on the ground? Having just completed the first half of the walk (from Knighton to Machynlleth) I can tell you that it is a very practical book which defies the walker to go wrong. He has the ability to anticipate the wrong turnings that an inexperienced or careless walker might make: 'don't take the track on the right(or left or straight on) is a common comment.

The book is a slim one that fits very nicely into a pocket or, open, fits neatly into a map case.

David Perrot and Aurum Press are to congratulated on this production.
