Product Description

Nicholas Lezard, Guardian, Paperback Pick of the Week, June 9, 2001

Anecdotal, chatty, tough-minded... generous and considerate. And it is splendidly written.

Andrew Jefford, Evening Standard, August 21, 2001

An enjoyable romp around the wings of the wine world... often amusing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read - Highly Recommended, 10 May 2001
By A Customer
You Heard it through the grapevine is an interesting book because it takes the lid off some of the aspects of wine that other books dont mention. The author thinks that the wine being sold in Britain now is not as good as what was on offer in the 1980's. I cant comment on that but I have the distinct feeling that he is right. When you look at the shelves in the local off licence, it looks like there is masses of choice, but certainly a lot of the wine does taste the same.

He also says what hasnt been said for much too long, which is that we are being totally ripped off in restaurants when it comes to wine. Paying £3 a glass for some tasteless liquid is a joke and yet they get away with it because we keep on buying it.

This book is a good read. It isnt full of posey guff and yet it makes several very good points about a subject that, let's be honest we would all like to more informed about. Hightly recommended.
