4.0 out of 5 stars An excellant guide by people who understand the canalside, 11 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This guide works well as both a 'coffee table' view of one of Britain's longest canals - driving through the heart of England - or as a practical guide for walkers. Not only does it describe the walk North from London to Birmingham but it gives glimpses of the the natural life along the canalside as well as snippets of the hidden history of one of Britain's most adventurous periods.

Who knows it might inspire you to walk all 146.7 miles!

4.0 out of 5 stars Take this with you when you walk it, 14 April 2006

Another reviewer said read the book and you may be tempted to walk it.

I did just that and it proved an excellent guidebook as I walked from London to Birmingham.

To my mind the book provided the right mix of maps description and hard facts, As it was written in the early 1990's the canalside description may be getting a bit out of date in places, but as the canal itself hasn't changed too much in 200 years, so the book is still valid today.
