An excellent, "must have" book for all cake decorators, 21 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This is an excellent book for cake decorators. It provides many beautiful examples and instructions for various designs including tracing templates that can be used for moulding; flooding and painting. The book's title says it all. The Christmas cakes illustrated are superb. It is a "must have" book for all cake decorators.

20 designs for the decoration of a Christmas Cake to a particular theme, 13 Nov 2007
n.b. actual cake recipes not included in the book.
`20 designs, covering all skill levels and includes
traditional and novelty cakes, using both royal icing and sugar-paste.
All the cakes will be within the scope of those with little or some knowledge and skill in sugar craft.
Some designs, like `A Winter's Scene' and `The Nativity' are for those with more experience.
Techniques used include brush embroidery, bas relief, painting and modelling as well as simple cut-outs, run-outs, frilling and many more.
Beautifully illustrated with stunning photographs, comprehensive step-by-step instructions and photographs as well as detailed patterns and templates, this books aims to tempt and encourage you to create an edible work of art that truly celebrates the joy of Christmas and is sure to impress....'
I had to draft in the advice of a friend and colleague for this cookery subject as my ability level (and patience level) would probably not allow me to turn my hand to this skill!
Her advice was to try and see `inside the book`, for this or any other on the theme of cake decorating, before purchasing, based on the fact that the designs are a very personal choice. A title, rather like a Christmas Card design conjures up a different image for different people - you need to see the picture -some will appeal, some won`t!
Although, obviously, it is quite possible to vary a theme and simplify, should it be required.
Overall she felt that this particular choice of designs is probably most suited to those more experienced cake `creators', aiming to reproduce a particular theme.
Having said that the instructions are very detailed and could be followed by those with nimble fingers and `a bit of a flair'!
