The foremost book on European Concrete Fortifications of WW2, 10 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This is the definitive work on the design and construction of concrete fortifications throughout Europe. Covering all the major Fortifications in great detail down to the smallest two man Tobruk pits on the German Atlantic Wall Complexes. From the Atlantic wall in North Norway to the South Greek Metaxas Line. The observation towers on Alderney in the west to the eastern Czech fortifications and the Stalin Line in Russia. Chapters on the Maginot Line, the Atlantic Wall and main forts like Eben Emmel go into great depth with maps and detailed design plans including specifications. Even covering the design specifications of the entrance doors and the secret escape tunnels in the Atlantic Wall Bunkers, and how they were sited to provide interlocking fields of fire Well worth every penny the research must have taken years. 5 stars but would have given it more

Great Book, 11 Sep 2008
I bought this book because I needed information about British fortifications on Malta. Boy, was I in for a treat.
This book has loads of information about all major European fortifications during WWII. Caliber and numbers of guns, garrisons, etc... are naturally there. But there are also informative and very detailed drawings, maps and photos of these forts and bunkers.
Every chapter is about another country. There are chapters about France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Great Britain, Italy, Scandinavia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Yugoslavia, the Balkans, Finland, the USSR, a separate chapter on the Atlantic Wall, and a 2-page appendix dealing with the Iberian Peninsula.
Chapters are divided into Background (reason for building them), a list of major fortifications in that country, Location, History, Description (detailed information about the forts, including exact details on defensive works etc...), Weapons and Equipment, a description of the action the forts saw in the war, and a number of photographs and drawings.
Seriously recommended reading for anyone interested in World War 2.
