Product Description

Product Description

This text considers how individuals with autism can be enabled to learn through specific approaches to teaching which draw together understandings of how such individuals think and learn and the implications for those who aim to teach them. A coherent perspective on the education of individuals with autism is offered - a pedagogy for autism. The book is aimed at both teachers and parents. It offers insights into reasons behind autistic ways of behaving and guidance about ways of responding.

5.0 out of 5 stars More on the subject of those with very complex ASD needs, 15 Aug 2009
This is a superb book, but don't expect a step-by-step approach here. This book is a series of essays, usually with case studies, of different aspects of learning particularly for those with more complex needs. It has a particularly good essay on Intensive Relationship Intervention and the journeys a couple of people took to establish meaningful communication with someone with ASD. It is middle-of-the-road academic in its language. I would describe it as belonging on an educator reading list, and as a parent would be buying more of a "how to" first, using this as supplementary information.
