Amazon.co.uk Review
You're sitting in the pub with your mates, half an hour before kick-off. Your team is playing Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup.
None of you know much about the Second Division minnows--except you. "Course, their main man is Jermaine McSporran", you say. "He was signed by Wycombe last November from Ryman Division One side, Oxford City, from under the noses of several Premiership clubs. Cool in the box, he is as quick as they come and in particular, his acceleration is phenomenal."
Your friends are stunned into silence, amazed at your hitherto hidden in-depth knowledge of obscure lower league strikers. Little do they know that tucked in your bag along with your thermos, scarf and rattle, isThe 1999-2000 Official PFA Footballers Factfile.
Now in its 5th year, this is a gem. The detail is immense, covering with humour and insight 2,000 professional footballers in the English game, lovingly compiled by Barry J Hugman. One slight problem though. If you are researching information about a team, this book won't help, because unlike Rothmans Football Yearbook1999-2000 players are individually listed alphabetically, not by team. This is fine on one hand, because players are so regularly transferred. But on the other, if you want to know who plays for a certain club, and don't want to come a cropper with your mates when they ask about the rest of the Wycombe team, buy a newspaper first. --Paul Vinnell
