5.0 out of 5 stars More to the book then it's title!, 20 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Alan McKenzies book goes through every stage in the comic-creating process. Not only does it teach you to draw comics, but also scripting, colouring, seperations and more! It even has addresses at the back that are useful (altough some addresses are outdated). This book is not only good for aspiring artists, but also for aspiring writers. Don't let the title fall you, this book teaches you everything. If you want to get a career in comics, you'll need this book. Once you've read it, you wont know how you lived without it. Highly reccomended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A basic entry guide to breaking into the world of comics., 28 April 2001
By A Customer
This book has been fully revised and updated since I first bought it bringing it into line with the way comics are produced and sold today. For anyone with a passing interest in comics, this book makes a great introduction to the actual production processes of putting them together. The volume contains useful advice for anyone who aspires to a life in comics, from writers and artists to (unusually for any book of this type) letterers and editors. There is a wealth of examples contained within the book to illustrate the points as well as point out the sheer diversity of artistic and literary styles at large within the world of comics. There is also an example by way of a two-page comic strip from conception through to the finished article with emphasis on background research and sketching. It does not tackle any of the main disciplines in any great detail but then there are many other books, also by the professionals that can cater for those needs. What this book does provide is a basic grounding in each. It urges a professional approach when submitting work to editors and tells you the best methods for marketing yourself within the industry. For the more entrepreneurial reader, it also covers the topic of self-publishing, from how to layout pages to approaching the right printer for you. Alan McKenzie is a long-time professional comics creator with a lot of editorial experience. If you are serious about getting into comics, listen to an expert.
