Product Description

Product Description
There are 188 mountain summits in Wales which reach the height of 2000ft. This book describes how to ascend them all in a series of 49 walks. By completing all the walks the reader will ascend all the Welsh two thousanders.

About the Author
John and Anne Nuttall are the authors of the popular Mountains of England and Wales as well as nine other guidebooks. They also write a weekly column for the Manchester Evening News. In 280 walks they have explored most of North West England. They also write for various magazines about the mountainous areas of England and Wales. Anne was a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society but gave up pharmacy to concentrate on outdoor writing. John was formerly a Chartered Engineer and manager with ICL but now illustrates many books with his pen and ink drawings. Their books have won the 1993 and 1996 OWG/ COLA Award for Excellence (guidebook) and the 1997 Lakeland Book of the Year Award.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great mountain walking guide, 6 Mar 2003
By Michael Knapton (Sheffield, Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this superb walking book in the early nineties and have had many years of use out of it. The book uses the "Wainwright" style in that it is illustrated with beautiful hand drawn pen and ink pictures and maps and does not use photographs at all. The primary goal of this offering by John and Ann Nuttall is to offer routes for walkers to climb all the 251 peaks above 2000 feet in England and Wales, this is achieved in a series of 58 walks which are described in a personal way by the Nutall's as they narrate and recall their own experiences of doing the walks and add items of historical and local interest which show a depth of research and knowledge not usually seen in many walking guides. All the routes are circular and include details of car parking, maps required, distance and the total ascent in feet.

For anybody who takes mountain walking in England seriously this is a "must have" book. It's really worth four and a half stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing mountains, 3 Feb 2006
By Mr. J. A. Grayland "johngrayland" (Birmingham, Britain) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you like to climb hills and you live within driving distance of Wales, then this may just be the best book ever. 188 peaks over 2000 feet described so you can clamber, crawl or hobble to the top. This book is the perfect size to fit into a cagoul pocket and has a waterproof cover. It contains great and pithy descriptions and lovely line drawings. My copy has been with me almost every weekend over the last two summers.

Every peak in Wales worth climbing is in here along with some that are not. There are clear explanations of all the routes but not so much detail that you could manage without the map. John and Anne Nuttall clearly know their stuff and they love to be in the mountains.

Some of these hills are desolate, some are made up of endless bogs. Many are dramatic, some magnificent and all of them are inspiring in one way or another. Just driving to these hills feels good getting to the top feels great.

If this book inspires you to haul your weary body to the top of the Glyders, the Carneddau or the Rhinogs you might just discover that you never want to go back to the office again. I'm about half way through and I just will not be happy until I have conquered all 188 tops.

Beware, this book could change your life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, but..., 11 Nov 2008
By J. Traill (Newcastle, England) - See all my reviews

...you need to be dedicated to "bagging" small bumps in isolated areas. I like the Nuttalls books, they're informative and fun.

However, I never liked drawn photos. I think it looks cheap.

very good value if your climbing serious hills and mountains in Wales.
