Product Description

Product Description

The Isle of Arran rises from the Firth of Clyde between Ayrshire and Kintyre. Its mountainous form dominates the open waters of the Clyde and its jagged peaks present a challenge to walkers. The Isle of Arran has much to offer the visitor and is often described as "Scotland in miniature". Roads are very few, but opportunities to explore the island on foot are many and varied. This guidebook offers a selection of 40 one-day walks all over the island, from gentle strolls along the glens to tough ridge walks.

About the Author

Paddy Dillon is a prolific outdoor writer with over thirty guidebooks to his name, as well as more than a dozen booklets and brochures. He writes for outdoor magazines and other publications, as well as for tourism organisations. Paddy lives near the Lake District and has walked in every county in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales; writing about walks in every one of them. Paddy enjoys simple day walks, challenging long-distance walks, and is a dedicated island-hopper. He has led guided walks and walked extensively in Europe, as well as in Nepal, Tibet, Africa and the Rocky Mountains of Canada and the USA. While researching routes, Paddy works directly onto a palmtop computer, so that his descriptions are precise, having been written at the very point at which the reader uses them. Paddy takes his own photographs, has appeared on radio and TV, and is a member of the Outdoor Writers' Guild.

5.0 out of 5 stars Walking in the Isle of Arran, 14 Jun 2007
By R. Torpey (UK) - See all my reviews

This is a really useful guide with detailed descriptions and maps for 41 walks covering the whole island. This means that there are walks for everyone in here, from strolls along the coast to serious routes which require a rope and a head for heights. The routes are presented in a way that allow the walker to combine two routes for a big challenge, or include short cuts and amendments according to interest. Highly recommended.
