Its coverage is extremely comprehensive, with walks in Wharfedale, Airedale, Ribblesdale, Swaledale, Wensleydale, Dentdale, Garsdale and Mallerstang, the Howgills, Ingleton and Clapham. The walker's environment is enhanced by preliminary chapters giving an insight into the geology, natural history, industrial archaeology and man's influence on the scenery of the Dales, and additional information accompanies each walk. There are two new chapters describing the latest developments on The Three Peaks Project and the Settle-Carlisle Railway.
