It includes accounts of: a pilot's miracle survival story as his Lightning disentegrates and he cannot escape; how a young pilot died in his attempt to protect the daughter of a French family; a son's trip to a crash site to discover how his father died; how the finding of a pilot's silver wings unlocked a story of structural failure and swift oblivion; how a P-51 was blessed before take-off but still proved a demon to fly; how two P-51s tackled 200 enemy aircraft; and the letters from a young American training to fly, which were followed by silence and then murder.
