Product Description

Book Description

Fancy a decent pint? It used to be easy, but pubs and breweries are changing at such bewildering speed that you need an old and valued friend to take you to pubs that guarantee good beer in welcoming surroundings. That's why you need the Good Beer Guide with its unrivalled experience dating back almost 30 years. It employs no paid inspectors and accepts no payments for entries. It's researched by members of the Campaign for Real Ale, who monitor pubs and breweries on a regular basis, not a once-a-year spot check.

The Good Beer Guide offers more detailed entries than ever before on 4000 British pubs, as well as 1000 shorter entries, providing the complete guide to finding pubs serving the perfect pint and details of all the pub facilities on offer. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars a genuine pub guide for genuine pub users, 6 Nov 2001
By A Customer
The Good Beer Guide scores over all other pub guides in being researched not by strangers dropping by but by local drinkers who use the pubs regularly. Together with full information about breweries, it's why I always choose this guide above, often pretentious, other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE guide to good beer in good pubs just got better!, 18 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This latest edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide has longer descriptions and more information about the pubs.
The Good Beer Guide also contains a listing of just about every brewery in the UK with a list of the beers that they brew - no other pub guide has this information.
In summary, all you need to find excellent real ale in good pubs in one book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true independant pub and beer guide., 15 Oct 2001
By A Customer
If you've clicked thus far you probably know what the Good Beer Guide is. What you'll want to know is, is this edition of the same high quality? Well yes it is, as usual it?s got the same independently voted for pubs, clear information and detailed knowledge of all areas.

However this year the guide has increased its descriptions of each outlet to a very elaborate manner. Gone are the short shrift mentions, in are large verbose details of all the main entrants.

If you have bought a previous GBG you will also note that the "try also" feature has been dispensed with. In its place is a new Inn Brief section that adds additional pubs to a particular area. Now this is where the latest GBG does fall down.

The Inn Brief sections are far too disjointed from the main flow of the book. You can easily lose entrants for a particular place and sometimes you are rummaging for a place because it?s in a separate Inn Brief section. The Inn brief mentions are better than try also?s, but harder to find.

My review will score 5/5 as its based on quality and quantity of the book itself. However CAMRA needs to remove the try-also/ inn-brief feature. It doesn?t work and if a pub is in, it should be mentioned properly.

This cannot detract from the guides overall usefulness, appeal, research and quality... it's a bargain.
