5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic and well researched must-have for all cider lovers, 17 April 2001
If you enjoy a taste of all that is natural from the apple you must get a copy of this cider drinkers bible. From the outset, it gives an insight into the traditional aspects of cider manufacturing and distribution as well as the well known listings of pubs from this range of books. The difference from the more well known titles such as "The Good Pub Guide" is that it lists real "Cider Pubs" - those that sell more cider than beer. For those of you that enjoy a draft of Kingston Black will know that decent Cider pubs are hard to come by so this is a gem. Not only does it take the tedium out of going from pub to pub only to be told that they have poor fizzy imitations - it also lists those that sell food and a short background as to the pubs origins. Another useful aspect is that it lists all the wonderful, well hidden cider makers and informs you of where you can purchase their ciders from. So if you are out and about on a hot summers day, and want a pint of soemthing natural and refreshing make sure you carry a copy of "The Good Cider Guide" in your back pocket!

1.0 out of 5 stars Less useful than the Good Beer Guide, 23 May 2003
Though a great idea in principle, this guide is so selective and incomplete that you'll find more pubs that sell decent cider by looking in the Good Beer Guide.

The editor takes a very purist attitude, disqualifying ciders which do not meet exacting standards of production - even though they are a million miles away from the Strongbows and Dry Blackthorns of this world. This means that many towns and cities simply don't have any pubs listed, even though there may be a pub there selling Weston's Stowford Press or Thatcher's Farmers Tipple, neither of which qualify.

The research also seems very scanty: I could name several pubs near my home which sell good cider but aren't listed here.

Interesting as a list of pubs to visit, but by no means a comprehensive guide.
