Product Description

Synopsis
This is the story of how one police officer fought for two and a half years to clear his name after he was taken to trial at the Old Bailey - by his own employers. Ali Dizaei was once tipped to be the first Black chief constable. Iranian by birth, he had worked his way through school and university to qualify as a barrister and earn a PhD in his spare time. But his status as the Met's high-flier was dashed when one day in 2001, he was suspended - accused of using drugs and prostitutes, taking bribes and even of being a threat to national security. This is the sensational story, told by the only man who knows the whole truth, of the rise and fall of the out-of-control coppers who tried to destroy him and how Dizaei refused to be beaten. Acquitted twice at the Old Bailey after a GBP 7 million investigation, he's now back where he wants to be most: doing his job as a serving police officer. Content is strictly embargoed until publication date.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is proof that not all the coppers are b....ds, 3 Mar 2007

I bought this book only out of curiousity and could not put it down and finished reading it. Thoroughly enjoyed it and i am sure that anyone who is fighting for his or her rights will enjoy it too.
Fantastic book, whole heartedly recommend it, although Daily Mail is running a vendetta against this honest officer. Well done Mr Dizaie keep up the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are only allowed one book this year - This is the one to buy, 17 Mar 2007
I could not put this book down. I bought it after reading an extract in the Times newspaper.
I don't wish to give the plot away - Except a brief synopsis, which has already appeared in the national newspapers.
After reading this book the reader learns that the truth is sometimes more complex than fiction. The Book describes how the Metropolitan Police went all out to nail a senior black Policeman spending some nine million pounds of the taxpayer's money to do this.
The policeman Mr Dizaei, basically an honest hardworking Cop was cleared in court and the chief of Police made a statement stressing his integrity. But some fantastic facts about the Metropolitan police emerged. The books quotes from extracts of the Court case against Mr. Dizaei who was defended by Britain's leading defense lawyer Mansfield.
The crime Dizaei was accused of was that that he had lied about somebody scratching his car, not about the scratch mind you, but the location of the car when it was scratched. They even employed the FBI to track Ali Dizaei. They were determined to find something against him but the officer emerged as clean as a wistle during his trial. Several dozen officers over several years in an operation called Helios examined every detail of his life bugging everything around him it was a case of literally "Get Dizaei at all costs"
The book is a A real life Kafka like thriller. Like in Kafka the hero had angered somebody, but nobody knows when, who, why or when including the investigators. Instructions had come from the top to finish him off and that the Metropolitan police machinery has launched its massive investigation called operation Helios which grew bigger and bigger took a life of its own and went out of control.
After reading the book I don't think racism is the cause of the vendetta against Mr Dizaei (readers must form their own judgment about this) its more about power and the exercise of it. The book reminds me of the Time in the 1960s when J Edgar Hoover Controlled the FBI. Anyone crossing him was crucified. If you wish for nonfiction high drama and an unusual insight of how the Metropolitan police operates from straight from the pen of a serving senior officer, this is a book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping from start to finish, 31 Mar 2007
By A. Cassidy "Anna" (UK) - See all my reviews

I loved reading this book, it was as gripping as any thriller, I couldn't wait to get to the end to find out if Ali found justice in the end.
Ali Desaei seems a likeable character, honest and forthright, ruthlessly ambitious, a tad arrogant yet aware of his faults and weaknesses (unusual for a man:)). Tenacious indomitable to the end which is fortunate because a lesser man would have been broken by the racially motivated hate campaign that was waged against him. It would make a brilliant film-don't know who would play the lead though!
I can't recommend this book enough.Read it!!
