Review

"'Daniel Chavarria's perkily air-brushed version of a life among Havana's prostitutes bursts with humour and snappy Elmore Leonard-style prose' Independent 'Black and bawdy Cuban pulp fiction... entirely good-humoured, with some fine ribald moments' Literary Review 'Steamy suspense, comic upsets... and wonderfully sketched characters of ample flesh and blood make this a brutal romp full of guilty delights' Crime Time 'Balancing thrills galore and much violence and sexual debauchery with a subtle philosophical debate, The Eye of Cybele is a wonderfully literate and witty historical adventure, and a major contribution to the genre' Maxim Jakubowski, Guardian"

Product Description

Aldo Bianchi, an Argentine former revolutionary living in Italy, travels to Havana where he meets the beautiful Bini, a young girl working the hotels with great wit and panache. Bianchi soon discovers via his liaison with Bini that his nemesis, the Uruguayan military torturer Alberto R?os, is living under a false identity in Cuba. Putting his tropical holiday on hold, Bianchi goes on the hunt for his sadistic enemy. Daniel Chavarr?a portrays the sensuousness and skullduggery of contemporary Havana, a city that offers erotic thrills to pleasure-seeking tourists even as it hides villains in its humid embrace. While R?os thrives on bribery and corruption, Bianchi is driven by a desire to see justice done. Tango for a Torturer is a political thriller in which bawdy humour coexists alarmingly with chilling evocations of the evils wrought by military dictatorships in Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
