5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Refreshing, 8 Jul 2003
Terrorism is no joke, which was once again demonstrated by suicide attacks in Moscow last week. But the motivation and ideology of those who perpetrate political killings and bombings is in its core stupid and ridiculous and this is where Stewart Home is aiming at with his superb book. I simply couldn't put it down until I was through and it is fun from the first sentence to the last - even though some whole sentences are taken from some bad pulp fiction and repeated over and over again (the translator's notice says that it's a method of writing called 'plagiarism' invented or splendidly re-invented by Home) - they seemed to make me laugh more and more every time they cropped up in the text. The book is the most enjoyable piece of satire I've even read. Home is taking the piss out of all these anarchist, feminist, ultra-right and all other extremist movements in such a gracious way that, methinks, no one can take them seriously after that! And I also liked its title: the book's cover with the Russian translation of it, OTCOC, fits beautifully between volumes of Dostoevsky and Proust I also happen to have on my bookshelf!
