5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive text for J++ beginners, 22 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Imagine you just fell out of an aircraft at 50,000ft with all the materials required to make a parachute, and a book on how to make parachutes that is so easy to read, so clear, and so completely devoid of irrelevancy that you can read it and absorb the content fast enough to make a parachute and before you hit the ground. This is that book, but on the subject of J++. I had my first Java applet running within 7 minutes of picking the book up. It is more of a tutorial than a reference book, so it probably won't be the only J++ book you need if you're going to write serious applications. That said, if you're in a big, major hurry to get into Java you won't find a better introduction to J++. It also has the advantage of being quite cheap!

5.0 out of 5 stars First time coder or those changing from J++ 1.0 Brilliant, 19 Jun 2000
By cgait_1999@yahoo.com (Bristol England) - See all my reviews
Please tell me where to find more books like this! As a lecturer I find many books are too academic and not enough hands on. This book will take you from what Java J++ is, why you use it, what's good/bad & creating useful Applets and Windows Applications. Anybody can read this book and learn as it is easy to follow & understand. A must for any first time programmer, or veteran programmers translating from Visual J++ 1.0/1.1 to 6.0. Brilliant I have recommended it to all of my students.

1.0 out of 5 stars definitely not for experienced java programmers..., 29 Nov 2000

I bought this book to learn more about the special characteristics about WFC. About four-fiths of the book is pure simple Java for beginners...and only a few pages explaining about WFC controls and handling events...I expected more on WFC controls which was why I bought it. If you are a beginning programmer this book is easy to understand. If you want a more detailed book I recommend Bruce Eckel's "Thinking in Java".
