Product Description

For 20 years, the sound of a brass band theme tune heralded the broadcast of the BBC's most successful comedy show. The misadventures of Eric Sykes and his "twin sister" began with "Sykes and a Telephone" in January 1960 and ran until November 1979 when "The BBC Honours Sykes" was broadcast. When Hattie Jacques died the following year, any plans for further series were shelved, but repeats of the show continue to be broadcast to this day. Eric Sykes has rewritten a special selection of shows as short stories which are copiously illustrated with stills from the show. The book also includes an original "Sykes" script and complete episode guide.

About the Author

Eric Sykes was born in Lancashire in 1923 and, in an amazing career as a writer and performer spanning half a century, he has worked with some of the all time-greats of comedy and has himself become a household name. Having written for stage, radio, film and TV, Eric established a long tradition of successful BBC sitcoms with his own show, Sykes and a...., in which he appeared with Hattie Jacques. The show ran for twenty years. Eric's award-winning silent TV comedy shorts spawned many imitators and he continues to write and perform, regularly appearing in West End productions.
