Product Description

Product Description

All pike anglers need a knowledge of their quarry and the best methods for catching it. This book provides both. All aspects and methods of pike fishing are covered: live-baiting, dead-baiting, lure fishing, river fishing, and piking in all types of stillwater; and since the book is divided into the months of one year, each method is adapted to take account of seasonal conditions. For the novice piker, there is a treasure trove of knowledge and advice; for the expert, there are scores of tips for refining technique and, ultimately for putting more fish on the bank. Mick Brown is one of the UK's most respected-predator anglers. He has eleven pike of over thirty pounds to his credit. He has contributed to a number of books and written many articles for the angling press, including "Improve Your Coarse Fishing" and "Angling Times".

5.0 out of 5 stars There is more than pike fishing in this book, 2 Feb 2002
By Peter Lynch (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Mick Brown is a serious fisherman, an addicted fisherman. The book is split into the months of the year , in the main, and talks about different locations, tackles and baits, pike behaviour etc: illustrated with many pictures of big pike he has caught. It is not triumphalist in tone, but there is a respect for the fish, and reverence for the fishing that can often be missing in species writers.

The resonance of his own life comes through the pages, and it doesn't sound like an easy life. His commitment to the sport , or vocation in his case, seems almost absolute and the knowledge here was hard bought. He writes like this though, and his articles in the fishing magazines are full of tips on fishing and tackle that he had to work to find out but which he seems happy to share. I have n't seen a better book on the zen of pike fishing, and if you know a bit about the basic tackles and rigs this is a great book for you. If you need your first rig drawn on a page for you then probably should not be the first book you should buy, but buy it next year if you put in the winter fishing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not For Complete Beginners, 16 Mar 2004
By A Customer
I'm sure that this is a great book, if you are a moderately experienced angler. However, to understand and appreciate it fully you need a working knowledge of modern angling.

I am returning to the sport after 30 years and the author assumes a working knowledge of modern equipment and teminology.

Before I get the best from this book I will have to get a 'Beginners Guide To Fishing'.

Having said all that, it is well written and, no doubt, if you understand the vocabulry, it would be a great guide.

Hope this helps.
