So you're going to wear the Kilt is an excellent example of a guideline to Highland dress and etiquette. It states clearly the "do"s and the "do-not"s of all parts of the outfit, starting with Kilts, Jackets, Plaids, Shoes, headwear and the use of clan-crested items. It specially refers to some "American" faux-pas.

This book should be found in the bookshelf of everyone who really wants to wear Highland dress correctly - be he Scot, American, German or whatever nationality.

A mildly interesting book about wearing the kilt and Scotland's national dress. The text is written by an American "expert" and is pretty "anal" about things. If you're interested in a bit of history, fine. If not, ignore it and ask someone who's worn kilts before. As a Scottish kilt-wearer still based in the UK, I feel it best to wear what you're comfortable with when you're comfortable with it. This American advice centres around US clan meetings and get-togethers and, as such, is an American interpretation of things. Best bet, I think, is to ask in whatever shop you're in.
And if you're thinking of buying one, make sure it's a Scottish-made kilt - the cheap ones advertised are manufactured abroad (Pakistan is one country).
I wouldn't recommend this book other than to demonstrate how American arrogance forces them to become world experts on a culture they, generally, have little direct experience of. Ask a Jock!

I found this book extremely informative yet simple to read and understand. Line drawn pictures were also quite helpful. It did not go into so much detail as to disinterest the reader.
