4.0 out of 5 stars useful reference book, to be taken on walks, 30 Sep 2000
By d.fay@qub.ac.uk (Belfast, Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews
Obviously great care has to be taken when using the walks recommended in this book. Mountain walking boots are essential for nearly all the walks. He takes the reader to remote and difficult places, with dangers of heat exposure in hot weather. His walks at other times need the same protection against wet and cold that would be needed in more northerly mountains. Some of his walks are in areas where new roads are being developed, and others are in areas of occasional landslip. His written descriptions are good. His maps are good. It would be wise to supplement these with 1:50 000 military maps if these are obtainable. These are serious walks for the serious mountain walker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Gran Canaria Guide, 14 Aug 2008
By Dr. Nicholas P. G. Davies (Halifax, UK) - See all my reviews

I find this book useful on Gran Canaria. It's not easy to find in shops now.

It's a proper walking guide and succeeds in giving both the route directions and the flavour of the walks. It helps walkers find their way to interesting corners of the island. As the previous reviewer says these walks are proper walks and will need boots on the harsh dry terrain.

What's missing is probably a second edition, with a load of good photographs as well. Or maybe I'll need to learn Spanish, and read it in the original.
