Product Description

Synopsis
This book is probably the best single reference on English bracket clocks, between 1714 and 1830. The author introduces his subject with an overview of the craft of clock making as it was practised in the early 1700s. Beginning with early examples from the period, he moves to the zenith in bracket clock design between 1760 and 1800, when constituent elements were perfected and blended into stunning examples of the type. He also discusses movements, lacquer cases, enamel and painted dials, and the export trade. The book concludes with a chapter on the practice and pitfalls of restoration and collecting. Notable bracket clockmakers and their contributions are discussed. The book is aimed at dealers, collectors, librarians and students of horology.
