This is a really good read and explains exactly how grace works. It shows the fullfilmant we can have by choosing to live by grace rather then by living by law. It is easy to understand and a very valuable christian guide.

The book starts with a prolonged description anthropomorphising a stained glass window and it reaching out. Then talks about a false image of God, something he does later in the book.

In chapter three he talks about "Hannah rejected by the religious elite as a mumbling old soak, mothers the mighty Samuel," (p47) when only one person questioned Hannah, who then blessed her upon her reply! Total over exaggeration on Lucas' part.

Chapter five made me completely angry. I quote "We have evolved the idea that there are laws of nature - which seem to imply that there is a cold hearted mechanic or scientist at the heart of the universe." (p86) Why does making laws or being a scientist imply that one is cold hearted? Why does he use the term "passionate artist" but for scientist used the adjective "cold blooded." Most of the scientists that I have met I would describe as passionate and many as caring. Why is the description of scientist any less awe-inspiring than artist? He goes on to say that creation carries the "signature of the Artist," why not the "signature of the scientist" or engineer.

While the book does contain many good points and a few gems, I found it generally disappointing and was glad to finish it to get back to the book I was reading and enjoying. While grace is a fantastic topic it adds little to what has already been written by others.
