Book Description

Cycling in Clydesdale introduces the cyclist to miles of virtually traffic-free back roads that wander through classic farmland, penetrate deep into the hills, ascend over high hill passes and follow tranquil river valleys. There is an informative introduction, instructions on how to get there, tips for cyclists, and a brief dip into Scottish history (including the Covenanters). Whether you are looking for suitable family routes, are new to cycling or a seasoned recreational cyclist you are sure to find something safe and enjoyable. There are detailed instructions for each of the 20 rides in the Clydesdale areas of Lanark, Biggar, Strathaven and Abington. Background information on easily missed places of interest to be found en route is included, with maps and photographs to complement the text. All routes are easily accessible from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Paul Lamarra lives in Lanark. He has cycled extensively in Scotland, Europe and North America and is an active member of the Clyde Valley Mountaineering Club.
