4.0 out of 5 stars A humourously written story of a City fan's angst, 20 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Those of us who are City 'til We Die would probably find this an excruciating read were it not for the author's courageously honest autobiographical style and sense of humour.

One reason that I liked this book was because of the cultural references interspersed throughout the narrative. I am approximately 8 years younger than the author but otherwise we share a similar upbringing; growing up in the north of England (although not Manchester itself), detesting "The Nation's Team"/RAGS/Trafford United (you know who), attending university in Manchester and we shared similar tastes in music at the same time before and after "Madchester" (what was it with those flares in 1989/90?).

All this leavens what would otherwise be a fairly constant tale of mediocrity caused by the material the author is forced to work with - Manchester City football over the last twenty five years or so.

I think you have to be a City fan to get a four star review, otherwise three is more appropriate, but I enjoyed it - my wife complained about me re-reading it again. Well done Mr. Winstanley!
