4.0 out of 5 stars Encouragement to use your legs, 29 Nov 2004
By Budge Burgess (Kilmarnock, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
An excellent little guidebook which will stimulate your interest in getting out and about. It offers 26 walks in and around Glasgow, encouraging you to escape the city centre and stretch your legs. There are walks here to suit everyone - you can even combine some light exercise with a quiet pint or even a meal.

Hunter contributes notes on local history, wildlife, and the landscape - a reminder that walking exercises the brain as well as the body. In a car you have little time or opportunity to appreciate the world around you: on foot, you are part of that world ... and you get a chance to value time and enjoy it, not pray that it will pass quickly. And there's a benevolent agenda in Hunter's book - if you can enjoy a couple of miles walking on a Sunday, it might stimulate you to start walking to work during the week. Walking is healthy, weight reducing, relaxing, and good for both the environment and your community.

'Best Pub Walks Around Glasgow' is one of a series of excellent walking guides provided by Sigma Press. If you don't live in Glasgow or visit it often enough to make use of Hunter's book, take a look at the Sigma website (www.sigmapress.co.uk) where you will find a superb range of walking guides covering the length and breadth of Britain.
