Excellent, colorful, summarises fat, protein, carbs, vits,, 14 May 2000
I have just read this book and would like to buy two copies, one for myself and one for a friend who's just had a heart attack. The pictures are mouth-watering, the recipes appear simple (I once ran restaurants) and the layout is clear and easy to follow - two or three recipes to one page! Excellent if you are cooking for a patient recovering from surgery or illness and has to follow a certain type of diet, or wanting to cook healthily for self and family and friends. I particularly like the first column which shows Calories, saturated fat, total fat, protein (high, medium, low), carbohydrate (high, medium, low), cholesterol (4.5g, 9g etc), Vitamins, Minerals. This is extremely useful if,eg, you are cooking for someone who needs to take Vitamins A, C, E, or iron -eg, people recovering from heart attacks, cancer, liver disorders. Takes the strain out of what do I do with spinach, carrots, where do I get iron from if not liver? Also, what is nice, is that if you really like lentils, eg, there are several recipes fairly close together so you can cook in bulk and freeze. I am going to try a few of the recipes before I buy - I already have a trunk load of cookery books - but I am sure I'll be buying it. I'll certainly be talking about it to people who want to eat well and improve their energy levels..... And of course if Amazon.co.uk can actually get this book - last published 1996 - they will be wonderful. Can't quibble with their delivery service to date. Excellent service so far. I'm addicted to internet book shopping with Amazon.
