Product Description

Product Description

"A story of passion and dedication, deserved of a place in great travel writing" -WriterFace.com, the online social network for writers and literary agents. Susie Tarver has an inquisitive and adventurous mind and a great sense of humour, which is how she came to find herself living in an old cottage in an isolated part of France in the first place. One day she noticed an overgrown and obviously ancient pathway alongside her garden. After some research, Susie discovered that this track is part of the centuries old Pilgrims' path to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, and has been walked by countless seekers and travellers since the Middle Ages. Eventually, curiosity getting the better of her, she decided to make the journey herself. On her own, on foot and all the way to Santiago. Join Susie on her own pilgrimage as she explores the wonders and pitfalls of Mediaeval French and Spanish towns, enjoys good food and generous hospitality--but endures more often the privations of life as a pilgrim--sobs into her sodden walking boots, fends off the amorous advances of a nonagenarian farmer, meets philosophers, jokers and mind-numbing bores, walks in rain and in sunshine and finds through it all the spirituality and peace inherent in this ancient path, arriving six weeks later, weary but exhilarated in Santiago, to find that her life will never be the same again. Evocatively illustrated throughout by David Dry RIBA."

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for Santiago buffs!, 14 April 2009
By Mrs. M. L. Ash "Boogie" (Godalming, Surrey, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is beautifully crafted. The prose flows so beautifully - it is as if you are listening to the author read the book out loud. Hilarious observations of the ups and downs of the Camino and deeply insightful. Tarver offers a balance of history with the modern day challenges of charting the camino. This is a must read for anyone thinking about walking the camino or interested in it's history. Unlike other books I've read about personal journey's along the Camino, this is one book I couldn't put down! Well worth reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars funny and sad, 24 Jun 2009
I loved reading this book and laughed out load many times at the bizarre situations. I really enjoyed meeting all the wonderful characters on the pilgrimage and was moved to learn about their reasons for being there.
