'A fascinating trawl through the stuck-together pages of British horror history' --- Bizarre

'A celebration in words and daring pictures of when fangs were fun.' --- Mail on Sunday

'The interviews are as revealing as the photography' ---The Independent on Sunday

Product Description

Over fifty years ago, with the release of "The Curse of Frankenstein" and Christopher Lee's iconic performance in "Dracula", Hammer ushered in a whole new era of blood and barely-restrained cleavage in glorious colour, mixing sex and horror with a style and panache that made the small British company world famous. Bursting at the seams with rare and previously unpublished photographs from Hammer's archive and private collections worldwide, and featuring many new interviews, "Hammer Glamour" is a lavish, full colour celebration of Hammer's female stars, including Ingrid Pitt, Martine Beswick, Caroline Munro, Barbara Shelley, Joanna Lumley, Nastassja Kinski, and of course Raquel Welch (who can forget her fur bikini in "One Million Years B. C."?).

5.0 out of 5 stars Hammer it home..., 28 Sep 2009
By S. P. Ridley (Nottingham,UK) - See all my reviews

I really enjoyed this book and if you have any love for the Hammer starlets of the past so will you.
It's a good sized volume every page has glossy well produced photo's of the girl with well laid out text on her(usually)brief career with Hammer and any information the author has sourced, interview excerpts etc on their life afterwards. It's all put together well and although i've read some of the stories on a fair number of the actresses before alot of them i haven't.Theres a few pages at the back dedicated to the actresses that didn't make the cut to the main part of the book which i wish was longer.
Amazon have this at half the publishers price at time of writing so i recommend not hanging about and pick this up now...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hammer Hornier, 4 Nov 2009
By Ian D. Taylor (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Well, this has to be the best book purchase of the year. A glorious trip down memory lane, visiting old imaginary girlfriends, brought vividly to life in a selection of fabulous colour portraits, many of which I had never seen before. The layout of the book is appealing to the senses and the mini biogs are clear, concise and interesting. To hear about their lives, kinda spoiled my shallow lusting-after vision of each, because just like us all, they had warts and all. Seriously, its made for fascinating reading, for I knew little about these femme fatales.
I've been having breakfast with at least two ladies from the book's contents, each morning for a couple of weeks, and still got Ingrid Pitt and Madeline Smith to go. Life just doesnt get any better...
It is a fantastic book, which has awakened my interest in Hammer films, and I will be aquiring Marcus Hearn's other book on the subject this Christmas.
Now, if the author would just kindly supply me with the telephone numbers of each, 2009 will be the year of the decade.

A fantastic collection of photos many of which I hadn't seen before all on excellent quality glossy paper. There is also plenty of writing but it could be some time before I get around to that!
