5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Read!, 18 Dec 2007
By Barbara Thomas (Cheshire UK) - See all my reviews

"Torn" is a compelling read, full of action, excitement and emotional intrigue.

There's a rich mix of characters - sleazy, sophisticated, sexy and suave - skilfully interwoven through the narrative; each well rounded and playing a significant part in the unfolding story. No padding out of the plot in this book.

"Torn" is tightly written, every word counts, and a full and vivid picture is painted. In fact, the text jumps so successfully into vision that it would translate to the screen brilliantly. Perhaps there's a future blockbuster here? There's certainly potential for a sequel to this absorbing novel - write on!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Surprising, 8 Jan 2008
I have not written a review before, but this book, by a new author, gave me so much pleasure that I felt it worth the time to say so. I so often stick with authors I know and this was a writer I had never read before. This unexpected Christmas present has definitely broadened my horizons and I look forward to further books by Ms Eveleigh Bell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Torn by Beverley Eveleigh-Bell, 17 Dec 2007

Exciting, compulsive reading that will keep the light on long after midnight. I found myself turning to the next chapter...and the next, in spite of eyes half closed with sleep! Lucy is a beautiful sensitive central character, who elicits from the reader a fierce loyalty and desire to protect. The author moves her complex relationship with the suave and enigmatic Marcus along at a compelling pace. (Hence the need to 'just peep' at the next chapter!)

Along the way we are introduced to a colourful collection of human beings, who display a whole range of emotions including vicious jealousy, spite and betrayal. In fact I found myself so fascinated by their stories (especially the magnificent Saule) that I shall be looking out for more novels hopefully majoring on them!

This isnt just any old love story. Its a contemporary love story - warts and all - with intrigue, human failings and even (very tastefully done) erotica. I loved the book, the pace, the writing - and most of all the characters. The last chapter was an agonising read as the author kept the suspense going right until the end. Quite a few lucky people will be receiving this from me in their Christmas stocking!
