5.0 out of 5 stars Funny but not frivolous, 19 Nov 2007
By Alba52 (Scotland) - See all my reviews
I can't believe the previous reviewer read the same book. I found this a highly entertaining, cleverly plotted read, not nearly as superficial as the glitzy cover would lead you to believe. Amy's discovery of new friends, then family was genuinely moving and the marriage of superficial designer-label culture with Real Life was deftly and convincingly done. Unlike some chicklit, I thought this book had a lot of heart and minimal silliness.

Young readers will love the shoes of course, also the comedy, the tragedy, the snappy one-liners. (Hepburn is great on dialogue. The drag queen scene was priceless and worth the price of the book. Give those guys a sequel.)

A perfect Christmas present for your best friend, daughter, sister or girlfriend - in fact anyone female who's under 30 and knows it's not about the heels, it's about the *memories*.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs, 13 Nov 2007
Every now and then, I fancy reading something light and entertaining, a bit of chick-lit to counteract a painful commute, sadly this book just made it worse. The premise was interesting - scorned boy sells girls prized shoe collection on ebay, I was intrigued - what would I do if my boyfriend sold my shoes on ebay? But its all downhill, rapidly, from there. Characters are invented just to support the failing plot (Natasha, the ex girlfriend, who cheated on the boyfriend, which obviously explains why he sells said shoes without even the slimmest of evidence). Other characters are such ridiculous caricatures, it's painful to read the dialogue, I had to skip through it - note the bitchy transvestite we meet in the Ladies of a downtown NY bar. I would have put some quotes in here, to support my review, but it was so bad, I recycled it rather than putting it on the library shelf at work for someone else to read. If you want a decent, enjoyable chick-lit romp, try Louise Bagshaw's Glamour. It's not art, but its a cracking read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Badly Written, 17 Feb 2009
By Ms. L. Webb (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I thought the premise for this novel was fantastic but I found the writing style of this novel so tedious that I couldn't even make it past page 20. Everything is overly described, the dialogue doesn't flow and it is the first book in a long time that I won't be finishing.
