'The comedy of this sprightly, pacey memoir is not so much in the
sexual frankness . . . but the Ed Wood-like innocence of the author'

4.0 out of 5 stars Only one word wrong with the title..., 28 Aug 2007
By Mr. A. Weston "Pope Pius IX" (Ealing, London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was given this book and told, "it's great, you'll want to read it in one sitting". That much is true. It's the story of a man whose interest in pornography finally compels him to try his hand at directing it. It's filled with pretty vulgar but hilarious incidents, and the author (it's 'anonymous') has a good turn of phrase when dealing with the various people he meets along the way. I reckon there's only two things wrong with this book, and neither of them hamper it more than the smallest amount. The first is that because this is apparently true to life, the author uses real characters but with altered names. The altered names that he chooses are often quite generic (Freddy, Dave and so on) and it can become tricky to remember who's who. The second minor quibble is that this guy got into pornographic directing in no way 'accidentally'. From the first it's painted as a conscious choice. As I say, hardly enough to ruin the book. Did I read it in one session? No, I fell asleep in the middle as it was two in the morning, but I'd still give it a very high 'addiction' rating!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outrageously funny, 14 Jul 2007
By A. R. Wichmann - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
At first I was really skeptical when a friend recommended this book to me. I was in no mood for some bad discreption of smut. Boy, am I glad that I overcame this. I haven't laughed so much in a long time. The does not only show the "hard" day to day business but shows how the main character struggles with his personal life. The girlfriend is not impressed by his new choice of career. I read this back to back on a day by the beach. Perfect summer read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wickedly hilarious, 27 Oct 2009
I read this book about a year ago, and gave it away to Bookcrossing, as I thought it's so funny that other people should enjoy it too. But it's SO funny, I thought I just have to buy it again! It's a pretty lurid account of life in the porn world, which is just hilarious. Funniest of all is the matter-of-fact way the porn stars talk about their work activities. Also, the bit with the guy's bank manger is very funny. An entertaining, escapist bit of fun.
