Product Description

Officer Louis Kincaid is looking for a refuge. Drawn to the stark serenity of the Michigan wilderness, he thinks he's found just the place in Loon Lake, gateway to the Winter Wonderland. But behind the facade of pines and gingerbread lurks a killer taking his vengeance. His first victim is a local policeman, shot dead in the middle of the night, a playing card left by his body. Next, facedown and frozen under the ice near the shoreline, another policeman is found dead, another card at his side. Suspicions are rife, the atmosphere increasingly claustrophobic as Kincaid leads the local police force in a desperate bid to protect their own. Scared for his life, frustrated at every turn, Kincaid seems to be a pawn in another man's plan. But in the hands of a master, the endgame can have any number of outcomes.

About the Author

PJ Parrish has worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, arts reviewer, blackjack dealer and personnel director in a Mississippi casino. The author currently lives in Southaven Mississippi and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

This is the first P.J.Parrish that I have read and enjoyed it. Kincaid is a believable character and the plot fast pace and keeps you reading......a great book for the long journey to and from work.

I hadn't read any other novels from this author before this one, but from reading this one i will definitely be reading more.

Very enjoyable main character, who is nicely fleshed out, Kincaid was a big city cop, now trying to fit in in a small out of the way town. He's been hired to replace a detective who was shot in his own home, and starts investigating this crime. But no sooner has he done so than the bodies start to pile up. Some novels you know who the killer is, but this one keeps you guessing until the end - well it kept me guessing anyway, and i have to admit i was wrong. But I enjoyed being proven wrong.
