Product Description

Product Description

It begins as a school trip to London. But with a sudden tidal surge and a dramatic thunderstorm that hurls rainwater down on the capital, it suddenly becomes something totally different - the site of a major disaster as the Thames Barrier is breached and London is flooded. With streets underwater, communications down, rats pouring up out of the sewers and thousands of people in a state of panic, survival becomes a very key issue for Ben and his mates. But worse is to come when a high-security prison is evacuated and a vanload of category A prisoners is caught in the torrent...

From the Back Cover

Code Red, Code Red . . . the Thames Barrier has gone!
A tidal surge. A dramatic thunderstorm. And a rapidly rising river.
Ben is in London for the day. And suddenly his visit becomes a terrifying struggle to survive as the Barrier is overwhelmed and a torrent of water floods through the city's streets in an unstoppable deluge of destruction.
Then it starts to get really dangerous . . .
Action from the very start in this dramatic thriller from Chris Ryan, ex-SAS hero and bestselling author.

Chris Ryan joined the SAS in 1984 and was awarded the Military Medal for his actions during the Gulf War when he was the only member of an eight-man team to escape from Iraq. It was the longest escape and evasion in the history of the SAS. He is now the author of many best-selling titles for both adults and younger readers and also appears regularly on TV as a survival expert.

Rupert Degas has starred on both stage and screen. His TV appearances include A Touch of Frost and Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years and recent stage credits include The 39 Steps. In addition, he has performed over thirty radio dramas and comedies and lent his voice to many animated films and series, including Bob the Builder.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing fight for survival - A must read!!!!, 29 Nov 2006
By Robbie (Manchester, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flash Flood: Code Red (Paperback)
This is a truly amazing book.

I have read many of the Chris Ryan books in the past aimed at the adult readers and this is the first time I have ventured into the 'teenage fiction' Chris Ryan books.

The plot is amazing and follows a 13 year old child from Macclesfield through his fight for survival on the flooded streets of London as a ship crashes into the Thames flood barrier in bad weather causing Greater London to be completely flooded with amazing descriptions, making it possible to imagine exactly what the devestation is like.

The realism is beyond belief and at times I could almost feel water around my feet it is that real! The story is not just about his fight for survival, but the effects Global warming has on the Earth. It made me rather worried about the future situation we may face if we continue to act as we do with our climate as the events in this book may be more common in the future.

Overall, the book is highly realistic, has one of the best storylines I have ever read and is highly realistic.

If you liked the 'Alpha Force' series by Chris Ryan, 'CHERUB' series by Robert Muchamore or 'Alex Rider' series by Anthony Horowitz you would love this book.

I would strongly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scary stuff, 23 Aug 2006
This review is from: Flash Flood: Code Red (Paperback)
This book is wicked for anyone. Its got lots of action, humour as well as the message - we need to stop global warming!!! This book has a very good storyline and follows many different characters after the Thames Barrier in London collapses causing most of London to be under water. Not only does this book show some of the scray effects of global warming, it also shows different sides of human nature and serves as a warning to us all as well as being an enjoyable read. Buy It!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive start to the Code Red series
This book was great. It had action, adventure and suspense. If you like the Alex Rider books you will love this book. A must read for any action lover.

1.0 out of 5 stars A shocker
This was terrible. The idea is great - London floods - but the book manages to destroy any excitement their could have been, making the whole thing seem laughable. What a waste.
