5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book and author!, 8 Jan 2008
By katesmom (oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
This is an adorable book that speaks to children on their level and engages them with simple yet witty text---all that and fantastic illustrations, too!
Sean Taylor is a great new author with a social conscience, as evidenced by his recent book award win when he refused Nestles' tainted award money. Bravo!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, 27 Mar 2009
This is an amusing picture book which tells of what happens when a monster is born, giving two examples of what might happen, then choosing one of those examples and going on from there. I thought it was quirky and enjoyable, and the illustrations work well - they shouldn't be scary for young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty and funny- brilliant!, 10 May 2009
By Becky Sharpe (Newmarket, U.K.) - See all my reviews
We all love this book- it's 'two possibilities' theme has become a family joke.
Its style is simple and repetitive yet it manages to be funny and witty and charming within that structure.
Always love Nick Sharratt's illustrations- working particularly well here.
I am even more impressed with this author now that I know about his refusal of the Nestle award.
I think this book is destined to become a classic.

1.0 out of 5 stars didn't like it
I bought this as it was shortlisted or won a book prize i think. I really didn't /don't like it. The children, who are boys and love a monster, don't engage with it either. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Perpetautes the status quo
Too bad the author decided to perpetuate the ages-old idea that all young girls desire a "handsome young man", and that all creatures might choose to marry and have children. Read more
