Product Description

Product Description

In this follow-up instalment of high gloss and drama, Edwards recounts how he befriended a real-life Leeds - supporting Dalek, convinced Rolf Harris that the earth is flat, was accosted by firemen while trying to paint a fire engine white, appeared on the sides of buses with his face painted in Leeds colours and received letters from the Queen and the Prime Minister after he complained about David Beckham getting an OBE. "Leeds United: The Second Coat" is another hilarious account of the scrapes, adventures and moments of comedy that a life's passion for Leeds United have brought Gary Edwards. Ok, he missed one but he still has the tickets and only a strike by Spanish air traffic control stopped him getting to a one-off friendly in Toronto.

From the Publisher

He made you cry with laughter with Paint It White, now the celebrated Leeds-supporting, cartoon-drawing, painting and decorating eccentric Gary Edwards is back. It turns out that his first book was only an undercoat, and now his crazy stories of life following Leeds needs a second coat. No wonder: Edwards, you see, has seen every Leeds game - competitive and friendly anywhere in the world - since 17 January 1968*. In those 38 years he's been there, done that and bought the T-shirt. But due to a large slice of senility and subtle prompts from his travelling companions, he's back with more tales that simply would not fit into the first volume. There's barely a pub in the land he can step into without some well-meaning soul coming up to him and demanding 'Loved the book, Gary! When are you going to do another - with me in it?' So here it is, then - another fabulously entertaining collection of travelling tales and friends remembered. Eventually.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is a what following a football team is all about, 31 May 2008
By Daniel Storey "Book_Worm_Daniel" (Rochester, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is Gary Edwards's 2nd book and after the success of his 1st book Paint it White I was expecting another fun read. Gary's tales of following Leeds home and away are legendry and this book picks up from where he left off in the last.
The first book was more about Gary himself, where as this book concentrates more on the characters, people and faces that Gary has meet whilst following Leeds everywhere since about the age of 10.
Gary's love of Leeds is like a marriage yet there will never be a divorce as his love has remained as strong as when it began and no matter what pain Leeds put him though the marriage will never be broken.
Much like the first book this read will make you smile, laugh and cry all at once but you won't be disappointed.
As I know myself following a football team has its ups and downs but what makes it special is the unique bond of people who share the same ups and downs as you and this book brings that out in all its glory.
No matter what football team you follow this book will appeal to all supporters and its worth adding to your bookshelf.
