Product Description
'South Croydon' is now the postal district covering South Croydon, Selsdon and Sanderstead. Each has its origins in rural tranquility and fields but the manorial estates and cattle fairs of South Croydon have goven way to the urban spread of Croydon and its numerous shops. Sanderstead and Selsdon were more remote and owed their development to the arrival of the railway system and the growth of residential estates for those who worked in London. In this new millenium, it is reassuring to be reminded by things that have stood for some time: a thirteenth-century church, Selsdon Park Hotel, the ancient foundation of Whitgrift School. Drawn from a variety of local sources including Croydon library, the John Gent collection, church records and school archives, this lovingly preserved collection will play upon the heartstrings of all its readers.
